it really is a hard thing to be away from home during milestone events. i moved from the safety of my parents home 3 days after graduating high school, eager to start my adult life and take on new challenges. it wasn't long after, probably while doing push-ups in 90 degree heat, that i started wondering if i had made the right decion by leaving home. since leaving i've missed both of my parents 50th birthdays, countless anniversaries, weddings, and births. during all of these events i'd ask myself why i wasn't there, why i hadn't made it home for such an important event. the only real answer i have ever been able to come up with is because they know i love them. i don't have to hand deliver a birthday card or be witness to the opening of a gift to take part in the moment. so long as your family knows that you love them and you would be present if you could is sufficient. the most important part of life is being sure that those you are closest to know how you feel, and that regardless of what day the calander says it is you always want to be with them.

in order to help the yellow dog feel better i think that i'll take her to chucky cheese when i get back to phila. but that could actually cause some problems though, it will take less than 5 minutes for every game to turn into a competition. however, so long as no bowling style games are present i like my chances.
